DRY EYE TREATMENT

Dry eye is a common and often chronic problem affecting nearly 16 million Americans.

Did you know there are two primary types of dry eye?

The first type of dry eye is evaporative dry eye. Simply, the water component of tears evaporates, leaving the eye exposed. The second type of dry eye is aqueous dry eye. This occurs when the lacrimal gland does not produce enough of the water component to keep the eyes moist. This results in a dry ocular surface.

Dry eye occurs when tears do not provide adequate lubrication for the eyes.

Environmental factors, such as smoke, wind, and dry climates, can increase the evaporation of tears. Not blinking often, such as while watching television or using digital devices, can increase the incidence and symptoms of dry eyes. It is a multifactorial syndrome resulting in discomfort, visual disturbances, altered tear film stability, and possible damage to the ocular surface.

For example, wearing a mask has many of us suffering from mask-induced dry eyes. This condition is caused by an airflow issue. Most masks do not provide a tight fit causing the airflow up and across the surface of your eyes. This encourages the evaporation of tears and can ultimately dry out your eyes.

At InVision Eye Health we treat dry eyes using an IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) system.

This allows our doctors to break up and release hardened oils that have clogged the glands in the eyelids resulting in dry eyes.

IPL treatments also affect vascularization and inflammation of the eyelids, reducing eyelid redness and stimulating healthy gland function.

The IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) system offers many benefits for patients seeking relief from dry eyes. We offer complimentary consultations to determine what treatment options are best for your vision needs.
